Ever think you'd see your name in a library when it wasn't involved with overdue books? Here's your chance to be a self-published author on the shelf and all you need is a library card. The People's Library, a collaborative public art project, has taken hundreds of books from the Main Street Library that were destined to be discarded and taught workshops on how to repurpose them into blank books, written by you and added to the library's permanent collection.

On Friday, May 3, from 5-9 p.m., the public will get its first chance to check out, write and return a book. It's a nice community engagement idea that offers the chance for future generations to read about these times and shudder, or perhaps delight and wonder how past civilizations were so smart and wordy, as they pour some Brawndo electrolytes onto their barren fields. Please remember, if you must include zombies or vampires in your story, that Edgar Allan Poe once lived here.
