If everyone in Richmond gave four hours to do something good for the community, the city would be a better place. That’s the idea behind HandsOn Day, when more than a thousand people are expected to participate in organized volunteer opportunities including painting murals, cleaning trash and landscaping. Project beneficiaries include Tricycle Gardens, the Richmond Public Schools, the YMCA, the Fan Free Clinic, the Virginia Home, the Boys and Girls Clubs and HomeAgain. To celebrate its fifth year, HandsOn Day invites all volunteers to an after-party at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery with food trucks, beverages, arts and activities led by Patience Salgado, known as the Kindness Girl. HandsOn Day is Saturday, Oct. 20, at various locations. Register at handsonrva.org.
