A film usually brings a story to life. Rarely does it become the story. But the movies of self-taught animator Brent Green exist beyond the screen. Known as Nervous Films, the independent filmmaker and artist from Cressona, Penn., performs his celluloid creations using live action, music and hand-drawn, stop-motion animation. Green gives a multimedia performance of his 2010 film, “Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then” on Friday, Aug. 1, at 1708 Gallery. The film tells the true story of a man’s struggle to cure his cancer-stricken wife, and it garnered rave reviews from critics and audiences alike when it was performed at the Museum of Modern Art, the Kitchen, the Walker Arts Center and the Hammer Museum. Now it’s our turn to find out what the fuss is about. Doors open at 5 p.m. Free. 1708gallery.org.
