Four Alternative Richmond Valentine's Day Events


1. You can bid on a date at the Black Valentine’s Day party, which raises money for independent radio station WRIR-FM 97.3. Music performances from Paul Ivey with a guest, Dorthia Cottrell of Windhand, and Mikrowaves, plus WRIR DJ Amanda. Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 7-11 p.m. at Gallery5, free.

2. Recording artist Raymone Carter, accompanied by the B.O.K Orchestra, celebrates one of the all-time soulful crooners with a Marvin Gaye tribute show at Club Euphoria, 6346 Midlothian Turnpike. Tuesday, Feb. 14, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and show at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30.

3. You can drop your drawers and head to New Balance in Glen Allen Richmond for the first annual Valentines Day Underwear Run on Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. The 5-kilometer race, in two 1.5-mile loops, welcomes runners and walkers. Socializing at Growlers to Go afterwards.

4. Looking for something earlier? Before all the amateurs start getting mushy and paying for affection, you can get out of town Saturday, Feb. 11, to celebrate with the single folks at Center of the Universe Brewing’s Anti-Valentines Day. The Something Shiny Band plays 6-9 p.m.
