Gypsy folk music found a popular modern champion in Gogol Bordello, a group that draws huge crowds for its raucous blend of old and new traditions. Richmond’s own Fool’s Errand similarly mixes elements of folk, gypsy and so-called world music for a rootsy, multifaceted style that recalls shades of Bordello without the punk force. Featuring violin, sax, bass and percussion and a whole lot of vocals, Errand still brings the party. And you can expect a full night of dance-worthy tunes with locals Rattlemouth bringing its Ethio-jazz grooves as the opening act. This show is a CD release party for “Cartographic” by Fool’s Errand and will feature a new Rattlemouth lineup. It all goes down Friday, Sept. 5, at Balliceaux with doors at 10 p.m. Free.
