On its criminally overlooked masterpiece from 1987, “Escape From Noise,” the Concord, California, audio-manipulation collective Negativland said that not only was sound used as a form of torture for centuries, but also that there was, as the title proclaimed, no escape from noise. It’s true — there’s no escaping it. But one person’s idea of torture is another’s sweet, life-affirming bliss. On Wednesday, March 18, the 25 Watt holds a night of divisive cacophonous caterwauling with Baltimore room clearers Extended Release and Transgender VHS, and Richmond ear-drum attackers Yoga Demon, Roy Wren and Blue Nile. If you like music that soothes the savage beast, avoid this show, because all the sounds generated are designed to enrage it. Doors for the process of weeding out open at 9 p.m. Admission is $6. 25wattrva.com. — Chris Bopst
