Sept. 1

The beats and boasts on Young Dolph’s crowd-pleasing debut release, “King of Memphis,” is pomp and circumstance hip-hop history. With the help of Mike Will Made-It, Zaytoven, TM88, Nard & B and others, Dolph power parties a wealth of street knowledge. The laid-back crotch-grabs of “Fuck It,” “Let Me See It” and “It’s Going Down Tonight” swagger with self-satisfaction. On “U.S.A.,” Dolph pimps the red, white and blue in a patriotic lesson first taught by Iceberg Slim. All the rhymes and rhythms he puts forth have their mind on their money and their money on their mind. It’s a profane life told and retold many times before, but the Southern rapper knows how to hit so the bruises don’t show. Young Dolph brings his bonfire of masculinities to the National on Thursday, Sept. 1. Cap 1 opens. Doors open for the all-ages show at 7 p.m. $20. thenationalva.com.
