Wild Child makes old-time hits for modern radios. Catchy and soulful, the Austin, Texas, group’s 2015 “Fools” captures the sing-along serenity of post-Beatles mainstream pop. Tunes such as the bouncy balladry of “Bullets” and the smile-inducing simplicity of “Stones” are piano-based charmers that go out of their way to be friendly. Similar to Lake Street Dive or Grace Potter, Wild Child’s ability to draw you in on “Take It,” “Reno” and album-closer “Trillo Talk” is undeniable. It’s music imbued with rare lyrical wit and confident musicality that makes its case simply by being. Listening to the band, you wonder why it’s not more famous. My guess is that it’s only a matter of time. Wild Child plays Wednesday, July 20, at the Broadberry. Richmond hit-makers Big Mama Shakes open. Doors open at 9 p.m. $15. thebroadberry.com.
