Widely acknowledged as one of the greatest of all time, the 1949 British film noir classic, “The Third Man,” changed moviemaking. It’s revered for the groundbreaking, expressionist cinematography of Robert Krasker and the soundtrack by Viennese zither player and composer Anton Karas. The Carol Reed-directed, black-and-white murder mystery, set in post-World War II Vienna, features Alida Valli, Orson Welles, Trevor Howard and Petersburg native Joseph Cotten in starring roles. On Sunday, Sept. 6, the Bijou Film Center will show a newly restored version of the legendary film at the Byrd Theatre. Following the screening, the Gypsy Roots play a free afterparty next door at the New York Deli. Show time is at 7 p.m. Admission is $7-$10. bijoubacklight.com.
