Richmond is a city of hills. The actual number of hills on which the city was built depends on whom you ask. But one of Richmond’s most historically significant land masses, Church Hill, will be alive with the sound of music Friday through Sunday, May 6-8. That’s when the inaugural RVA East End Festival: the Gift of Music takes over Chimborazo Park. The community celebration of arts and culture kicks off Friday with performances by the Richmond Symphony, the No BS Brass band and vocalist Desiree Roots from 5-9 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, a host of indigenous music-makers — including the Woodville Percussion Ensemble, the Chimborazo Elementary Choir, One Voice Chorus and others — take the daytime stage at noon. You can also expect vendors, children’s activities and food trucks. Proceeds from festival will go to benefit music education programs in East End public schools. Free admission.
