It’s been said that Virginia is for Lovers. Given the Virginia House of Delegates’ recent passage of a bill preventing state agencies from punishing people or organizations that discriminate against gay and transgender people, you could reasonably question if that slogan applies. But one thing’s certain: Virginia is for bluegrass lovers. On Saturday, March 19, the seventh annual Richmond Bluegrass Jam takes place at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. It features more than 30 bands performing on four stages over the course of 12 hours. The acoustic-based, family-friendly festivities include a wide selection of indigenously made beer and wine, food trucks and spontaneous jam sessions. Proceeds benefit the Richmond Fisher House, which houses and supports military families while their loved ones are cared for at McGuire Veterans Medical Center. Things get underway at noon and continue to midnight. Admission is free with donations strongly encouraged. rvabluegrassjam.com.
