Some folk purists give the gorgeous Americana sounds of Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch a hard time — mostly because Welch was raised in Los Angeles, adopted by musicians working on “The Carol Burnett Show” (so really we don’t know where she’s from, exactly). But while Welch’s beautiful voice and timeless songs have always been star attractions, her partner in life and music, Rawlings, has major skills of his own as an intuitive guitarist, songwriter and producer (Ryan Adams). His side project, the Dave Rawlings Machine, features the same breathtaking harmonies with Welch, but Rawlings’ own thin, reedy vocals usually take the lead. The band is touring behind its new album, “Nashville Obsolete,” and will be accompanied by Willie Watson (ex-Old Crow Medicine Show), Paul Kowert (Punch Brothers) and Brittany Haas (Crooked Still). Catch these Nashville pros making music for the heavens Saturday, Nov. 21, starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $33, and $38 day of show. thenationalva.com.
