March 9

The slow simmering, synth-based pop of Teen is pure ’80s. Drawing inspiration from the quirky hooks of the Eurythmics, Kate Bush and the Missing Persons, the New York-based quartet creates pastel atmospheres for timeless bedroom tension. Teen paints the many hues of love on its new full-length release, “Love Yes” — from the bubbly bounce of “Free Time” to the chaffed post-punk melancholy of “Animal.” The group’s pleasures and pains are rendered in deliberate emotional strokes. Serenely edgy, the album’s mix of conflicting intimacies works best when listened to as a whole. Teen gives shape to complexities of the human condition Wednesday, March 9, at Gallery5. Must-see Richmond psyche probers Blanks and Dazeases open. Doors for the night of lucid dreams open at 7 p.m. Admission is $8. gallery5arts.org.
