One of the best things about Richmond is that it has a river running through it. Now that spring has sprung, the annual outdoor concert series Friday Cheers returns to Brown’s Island. On Friday, May 13, it’s a showcase of modern Carolinian music-making. There’s the folked-up, multigenre acoustic rock of Shovels & Rope of Charleston, South Carolina, and the down-in-Dixie grooves of North Carolina’s Phil Cook. The coming weeks feature an impressive selection of diverse talents including ingenious melody-makers Natalie Prass, Lady God and Samantha Reed (May 27), indie rocker Kurt Vile with hometown heroes Lucy Dacus (June 10) and Texas soul-funk sensations the Suffers with feverishly fun party trio, Too Many Zooz from New York (June 17). The family-friendly festivities begin each Friday at 6 p.m. For ticket information and the full schedule of performances, call 788-6466 or visit venturerichmond.com.
