This isn’t your typical local music showcase. The RVA Rock’n Art Fest’s assemblage of homegrown talent is worth the price of admission, with money raised going to not one, but two worthy Richmond child advocacy groups, Beds for Kids and Stop Child Abuse Now, known as SCAN. That makes the varied rock-based sounds of up-and-coming bands Big Mama Shakes, Against Grace, Brighter the Moon, Peter Kelly, Sunbox, Towers and Tristen that much more enjoyable. Big Mama Shakes’ brand of soul is more than ready for the big time and the others on bill, especially Against Grace, represent some of the best raised-on-the-radio sounds the city has to offer. The show, with Fletcher from XL102 as host, is Saturday, Sept. 5, at the National. Doors open at 4 p.m. $10. thenationalva.com.
