If you don’t know: Krampus, the horned, anthropomorphic creature from Alpine folklore, punishes children on Santa’s naughty list. The mythical beast of pre-Christian mythology is the inspiration behind the third annual RVA Krampusnacht. All the fiendish festivities begin Friday, Dec. 4, with the opening of the exhibition “Yuletide Monsters 2: a Krampus Art Show” at Gallery5. The main event is Saturday, Dec. 5, when costumed ghouls descend on Carytown for a creep-filled walk in honor of the yuletide icon beginning at the soon-to-close Portrait House at 6 p.m. And on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m., writer and filmmaker Michael Dougherty stops by Fat Dragon Chinese Kitchen and Bar to discuss his new book, “Krampus: Shadow of Saint Nicholas.” For information on all the RVA Krampusnacht events and the Red Vein Army’s Krampus Kinder Nacht toy drive, visit rvakrampus.com.
