March 25

Night Idea makes math rock that’s easy to understand. While there’s an obvious obsession with technical precision, the Richmond riff machine defines itself through the manifestation of shifting emotional impulses. Each meticulously crafted orchestration it puts forth leads to a logical conclusion. “Easy to Lie,” the first single from the group’s new album, “Breathing Cold,” is a slow-burning charmer. The tune is a departure from the lengthy considerations that defined the group’s 2013 release, “Paths,” but the feel and attention to detail remain the same. Night Idea celebrates the release of its new album Friday, March 25, at the Broadberry. Opening will be Richmond indie rockers Spooky Cool, one-man, guitar-and-drum explosion Gull and trio, Roz and the Rice Cakes from Providence, Rhode Island. Doors open at 8 p.m. $8-$10. thebroadberry.com.
