Oct. 15

For years I attributed the quote, “May you live in interesting times,” to Confucius. Turns out I was wrong. There’s no record of the Chinese philosopher ever saying it, and what’s more, it’s an English bastardization of a centuries-old Chinese curse. Apocryphal tales aside, it will be interesting is to see how many people show up for the rally and march for Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein in Monroe Park on Saturday, Oct. 15. People boast of their political dissatisfaction, but how many people take to the streets to support a candidate they must know has no chance of winning? Let’s be clear: No third-party candidate will take the White House unless people have an active hand in building the party and making connections that might, eventually, make the times more interesting. Organized by the Young Greens at Virginia Commonwealth University, the rally begins at noon. For information, email younggreensvcu@gmail.com or visit jill2016.com.
