Event Pick: Get in the Car, Antiphons, Various Eggs, and Julie Story of Doll Baby at Gallery5

Nov. 18

Musician and DJ Paul Ivey — of Ghouda Mayhem and WRIR’s “Time Is Tight” show — has been pursuing a grand experiment. He spent months recording Mash Notes, a compilation album series featuring current Richmond artists covering other Richmond artists, some new and some old. “Mash Notes Vol. 1” features such great covers as Various Eggs’ totally different, brooding and robotic version of Dorthia Cotrell’s “Gold. Other artists include Toxic Moxie, Gouda Mayhem and Landis Wine with Kenneka Cook. Ivey says the resulting vinyl won’t be released until next year, but you can get an early sampling and help support the project by attending this rock show. It features popular local bands Get in the Car, Antiphons, Various Eggs and Julie Story of the awesome Doll Baby to benefit “Mash Notes Vol. 1.” The show is Friday, Nov. 18, at Gallery5. Doors open at 7 p.m. and music starts at 8. $5 cover.
