Written in 1973 by Peter Shaffer, “Equus” tells the tale of Martin Dysart, an unfulfilled psychiatrist trying to make sense of his young patient’s mutilation of horses. The production, which meditates on the conflict between logic and passion, won the Tony Award for best play in 1975. Produced in association with Amaranth Contemporary Dance and VCU Dance, the Cadence Theatre Company presents this multilayered psychodrama, running Thursdays through Sundays, Nov. 5-28, at the Virginia Repertory Theatre. The play, starring Jacob Pennington as Alan and Charley Raintree as Nugget, is directed by Anna Johnson and features the choreography of Scott Putman. Note: The play contains nudity. A post-show discussion takes place after the Sunday, Nov. 15, performance. Call 282-2620 or visit virginiarep.org.
