Diet Cig makes jingle jangle rock ’n’ roll. Coyly playful, the rudimentary pop of this New Paltz, New York, duo is rooted in the primitive pulsations pimped by underground label K Records of Olympia, Washington. Listening to the bare-boned stimulations on the group’s debut EP, “Over Easy,” is like listening to Velvet Underground drummer and secret weapon Mo Tucker fronting a less arty Stereolab. There’s a naiveté at play that can be equally charming or annoying depending on the hardness of your mood. Like Mo Tucker’s sweet whispers, the innocent beauty of vocalist Alex Luciano’s candied intonations and passionate bursts can be disarming if you aren’t ready for them. Personally, I wish all pop music was this good. Diet Cig delivers the teenage kicks Saturday, June 6, at the Camel. New York queer-is-here party quintet PWR BTTM and Richmond indie rockers HyeTension open. Doors open for the all-ages show at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10. thecamel.org.
