Rosie Connolly's — One word comes to mind when you think of this cozy corner in Shockoe Bottom: authentic. From the inviting dark-wood interior to delicious hand-cut fries and excellent Irish beer selection, everything is just right about this place. Tommy Goulding and staff arguably pour the best pint of Guinness in the city, complete with a shamrock on top of a nice, creamy head. 1548-A E. Main St., 343-1063
McCormack's Irish Pub — Mac's place is Richmond's only bona fide, punk-rock Irish pub. From Bottom dwellers to soccer hooligans, you'll always find a group of good folks here. Discerning drinkers will appreciate the carefully plucked array of beverages on hand, and there's always a top-notch selection of songs being played overhead. 12 N. 18th St., 648-1003
O'Tooles — A Richmond legend for more than 40 years, this Forest Hill staple is the quintessential neighborhood spot. And on St. Patrick's Day, with kicked-up kilts, bagpipes blaring and traditional Irish fare, no one packs a house like these guys. 4800 Forest Hill Ave., 233-1781
Rare Olde Times Public House — We raise a glass to the late Andy Jennings and his wife, Cindy, for founding a gem that strikes the perfect balance between listening room and dive bar, where slinging darts and sing-a-longs over whiskey and stouts are the colorful norm. 10602 Patterson Ave., 750-1346
Siné Irish Pub — If boisterous isn't your thing, you may want to skip the weekends when things get a bit frattish. But with a spacious downtown patio, this is a favored happy hour destination during the spring and summer months. Steven Spielberg apparently was a big fan while in town filming "Lincoln." 1327 E. Cary St., 649-7767
Keagan's Irish Pub and Restaurant — Out Short Pump way, they're raving about this newish pub with the huge spaces and lively patio scene. The place seems as polished as a chain but retains the comfortable feel of what it is, part of a Virginia-based group of restaurants. All the stuff you want in a pub, with karaoke, sports, wings, whiskey and more. And check out those server uniforms: Riverdance gone wild. 2251 Old Brick Road, Suite A-100, 360-9240
