Having spent last year releasing a live album, as well as a collection of B-sides and rarities, and being the subject of a revealing documentary, alt-country stalwarts Drive-By Truckers somehow found the time to venture back into a studio to record new material. It shouldn't surprise that the prolific, Southern-loving act emerged with two albums' worth of songs. Number one, “The Big To Do,” (with the second, “Go Go Boots,” set for release sometime by the end of the year), takes on such downtrodden subject matter as absent fathers, lost jobs, adultery and alcoholism. Supporting its release, the Athens, Ga.-based Drive-By Truckers are scheduled to play the National on Friday, Oct. 29, and Saturday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. $20-$25.
