Dr. George Church at the Landmark Theater

Saturday, March 19

DNA provides the blueprint for every living thing. Somewhere within its various combinations of nucleotides, sugars, phosphates and bases are the foundation of your very identity, and it's only been recently that researchers have begun to reach its scientific potential. One such researcher is Dr. George Church, a professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School. One of the originators of the Human Genome Project, which successfully mapped the 25,000 genes that make up an individual human genome, Church is undertaking the Personal Genome Project, sequencing and comparing the genomes of thousands of individuals to learn about personal traits and guide preventive medicine. Speaking on the benefits, consequences and implications of understanding our individual biological makeups, Church will address the Richmond Forum at the Landmark Theater on Saturday, March 19.
