Datsik is dance-floor mess and a glorious one at that. The stage name of Canadian dub step producer and DJ Troy Beetles, Datsik’s future-tech dance floor is riddled with twists and turns using the full expanse of modern technological innovation to get bodies moving. It’s a hodgepodge of sound that draws from hip-hop, drum and bass, and electronic beats and rhythms to create his whirling, left-field thumpers. Although his syncopations are machine-driven, there’s an unmistakable heart in his beats that fuels his whimsical flourishes and tirades with a Dr. Seuss sense of infinite possibility. While others in the here and now world of electronic dance feel the need to ruthlessly pound you into submission, Beetles floats like a butterfly to sting you like a bee. Datsik headlines the Digital Assassins tour with Herobust, Antiserum, Dook & D-Rez and Korin Complex on Friday, Jan. 24, at the National. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $23 in advance and $28 at the door. thenationalva.com.
