Dark Star Orchestra at the National

Dark Star Orchestra is the collective musical equivalent of Dr. Frankenstein, having spent the past 11 years raising countless tunes and exact re-creations of particular Grateful Dead shows. With official approval from Bob Weir (who's also made guest appearances with the band), the meticulous tribute outfit goes so far in its authenticity that it recently recruited for its shows the talent of Dan Healy, who served as the Dead's sound engineer for more than three decades. Bringing the band back to life as faithfully as it can, Dark Star Orchestra plays the National on Sunday, Dec. 28, at 6:30 p.m. $25-$28. 612-1900. — Mike Hilleary
