What is this? Poetic goth-folk metal? A strange summation I know, but that’s indeed what Corrections House plays. The underground supergroup, featuring members of metal malcontents Eyehategod, Neurosis, Minsk and Yakuza, conjures dark, eerie and ill winds together. “Last City Zero,” the debut 2013 release by Corrections House on Neurot Recordings, listens like a Cliff’s Notes version of slaughterhouse scenes from Upton Sinclair’s 1906 novel, “The Jungle.” Deliberately ugly, the brooding industrial dirges of “Dirt Poor and Mentally Ill” and “Drapes Hung By Jesus” are sadistic forays into pain as pleasure. The band brings its shrill abuses to Strange Matter on Thursday, Dec. 4. Statiqbloom of Brooklyn, New York, and Richmond ear debasers Dark Hallow Falls, Daggering and Ryan Kent of Gritter open. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $12. strangematterrva.com.
