John Maass will guide a bus tour following Lord Charles Cornwallis’s invasion of Virginia during the southern campaign of the Revolutionary War. The tour will begin at Hanover Tavern and ride to Westover Plantation, where people will enjoy an exclusive interior visit to this significant colonial house. The tour will then follow the path of the British army with brief stops at Malvern Hill and Hanovertown before returning to Hanover Tavern. Dr. John Maass is a historian at the U.S. Army Center of Military History, Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. He received a BA in history from Washington & Lee University, an MA in U.S. history from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a PhD in early U.S. history from Ohio State University. He was an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1987 to 1992. He is the author of The Road to Yorktown: Jefferson, Lafayette and the British Invasion of Virginia (The History Press), the basis for this tour.
