There’s no instrument as majestic as a grand piano. Beyond covering a seven-octave range, the sound of Bartolomeo Cristofori’s 17th-century invention forever transformed how music was written, played and heard. This weekend you can get up close and personal with the master’s instrument during Classical Revolution RVA’s residence at Lulu’s. Starting at 7 p.m. Friday, various soloists, duos and ensembles will play chamber music centered on the baby grand, donated for the performances by Rhapsody Piano and Guitar. At 2 p.m. Saturday there will be a performance of J.S. Bach’s “Goldberg Variations” divided among several pianists. Organized by the principal second violinist for the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Ellen Cockerham, admission for both performances is free. classicalrevolutionrva.com.
