Despite its association with inhumanity and evil, the psychology of the criminal mind makes for some amazingly interesting characters — take Hannibal Lecter and Norman Bates. There's a strange allure and excitement about insanity, as long as we're not caught directly in its path. Exploring this unusual fascination, the Chamberlayne Actors Theatre, 319 N. Wilkinson Road, presents its latest stage production, “Mindgame.” Following a writer of true-crime novels as he attempts to do research at a hospital for the criminally insane, this thriller examines the mind of a killer, and the unhealthy consequences that come with trying to understand it. Performances begin Wednesday, March 18, and continue through April 4. Tickets are $15-$20. 262-9760.— Mike Hilleary
