The hypocrisy of people is truly amazing ("Pet Psychic Talks to Fox's Feral Kitties," Street Talk, July 9). A man is arrested and charged with a crime for killing three feral cats. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats are legally euthanized in shelters every year. Meanwhile, most of us go to the store and purchase meat that was once an animal, usually raised in pretty awful conditions, then brutally killed after a short, miserable life.
Meanwhile, the feral cats those nice ladies spent all those hours catching, spaying or neutering are released and will spend the rest of their lives torturing to death hundreds of birds, chipmunks, moles, shrews, etc. Forgive me if this doesn't seem to make much sense. I am all for prosecuting animal abusers, but what does and does not constitute "animal abuse"?
