But Will We See the Bloopers?

VCU's Department of Dance is once again exposing the unsuspecting populace to a hybrid media form called, depending upon whom you ask, screendance or danscreen or cinedance, but which is, more simply, Dance on Camera. The dance department screens a selection of films from the abundantly titled New York Dance Films Association 2006 Dance on Camera Festival Friday, Sept. 1, at 8 p.m. The Grace Street Theater plays host to a night of short films on Homer Avila, a dancer who lost a leg to cancer; a piece shot in an indoor pool; and meditations on romance, imprisonment and family. As a new art form, screendance is evolving pretty quickly, so what you see now might well be different next year. Plus, of course, it seems more acceptable to eat popcorn while watching this kind of dance. Tickets are $5. 828-2020. S
