If you're up to no good, stay far, far away from officer Mary Gary.
Gary, who used to patrol the Church Hill, Union Hill, Chimborazo and Fulton neighborhoods, made 197 arrests in 2012 — more than any other Richmond police officer.
She's been with the Richmond Police Department for three and a half years, and recently became a forensics detective in the major crimes unit. Before that, she worked the midnight shift from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. She stayed busy to stay awake, she says — and she has a competitive streak.
"It sounds nerdy, but I really, really, really enjoy what I do," Gary says. Criminals have to keep getting lucky, she observes, while: "I just have to get lucky once. And I have a whole sea to pick from."
