Despite the controversial ouster of artistic director Carol Piersol from the Firehouse Theatre, the production of “Breast in Show” must go on. Working with the Virginia Repertory Theatre, Piersol produces a musical that explores the lives of five characters who have just been diagnosed with breast cancer. Using interviews conducted with patients, medical personnel and family members, the characters go from a state of disbelief to acceptance and treatment while they gain strength and create lasting friendships. Billy Christopher Maupin directs a cast of Richmond talent, including Andrew Hamm, Brittany D. Simmons, Chloe Williams, Jeanie Rule, Lauren Leinhaas-Cook and Russell Rowland. “Breast in Show” opens at Virginia Rep’s Willow Lawn stage on Thursday, March 7, and runs through March 19. $20-$25. va-rep.org.
