As a result, the suit says, Mayo suffered "severe and permanent injuries; physical pain and mental anguish" and lost earnings. The suit did not elaborate on the nature of those injuries or how the football caused them.

Mayo has asked for $15 million in damages. She says in the suit that it was the responsibility of the two colleges to ensure the football game was a safe environment for spectators, and that Hampden-Sydney was responsible for the unnamed kicker's actions.

Mayo's attorney did not return Style's calls by press time. Anne Marie Lauranzon, Randolph-Macon's director of marketing and communications, says college officials only recently became aware of the lawsuit and were reviewing it now. "I think we're just going to wait and see what happens," she says.
