You know a store takes its display windows seriously when it has a whole gallery of them on its website. "Having been in business for 34 years, I carry true vintage, and also quality reproductions — like fabulous beaded flapper gowns," owner Maymee Cayton says. The quintessentially Carytown vintage clothing shop, located just one door down from the Byrd Theatre, has had its display reflect things as varied as holidays and a pivotal scene in the Academy Award winning movie "The Artist." Inside, the store is a dizzying collection of vintage suits, dresses, hats, jewelry and accessories that would make the producers of "Boardwalk Empire" blush. And if you have any of the above produced between 1900 and 1965, the store may be willing to buy from you as well. Halcyon Vintage, perched on Robinson Street just on the edge of Carytown, has provided vintage clothing since 1983, adding an online shop on Etsy in 2010. Rumors Boutique, which buys, sells and trades lightly used, stylish vintage clothes, hasn't lost any steam since moving from Harrison to Broad streets. Open since 2007, Rumors also will donate your clothes to charity.
