Although many of Richmond’s pet owners are familiar with Betty Baugh Harrison’s clinic in the West End, she started out as the first house-call vet in town 28 years ago, a practice she continues. Seeing between 1,000 and 1,200 furry patients a year, Harrison says veterinary medicine has been a lifetime love. “I wanted to be a veterinarian since I was 7 years old. I even have books my parents gave me about animals for Christmas.” She often checks on pets that hate car rides, or whose owners are immobile. Recently, one client had a broken leg and a sick dog, so Harrison drove the dog to the clinic.
