Second Place: ACAC
Third Place: SwimRVA
Richmond, with its steam-bath summers, suffers from no lack of swimming pools, public or private. Voters point to a mixed bag of top facilities: the venerable nonprofit YMCA, ACAC and the nonprofit SwimRVA, which is owned and operated by the Collegiate School Aquatics Center, an indoor center in Chesterfield County. At the YMCA, swimming revolves around a single truism: It’s a skill that lasts a lifetime. YMCA offers progressive swim lessons for everyone from toddlers to adults, indoor and outdoor pools for lap swimming, water exercise and as many underwater tea parties as it’s possible to hold. Lifeguards are always on duty. ACAC has two Richmond-area locations — the still-shiny version in Short Pump, with its rooftop lounging pool, and Midlothian, with its outdoor water park. Both locations also offer indoor saltwater lap pools and warm water therapy pools. RVASwim has three pools, including one for warm-water therapy and a competitive 50-meter lap pool, where, its website boasts: “21 American records and world records were set.”
