Founded in 1953 by Jack and Gloria Weiner, Saxon Shoes at Short Pump Town Center remains one of Richmond's great family-owned businesses. It's grown from humble beginnings to one of the largest full-service shoe stores in the commonwealth, with more than 200 brands including Ugg, Timberland, Sam Edelman and Cole Haan. It offers an old-school shoe store experience. Saxon's website offers same-day shipping before 3 p.m. (with free shipping on any order in excess of $75), and the store has a 30-day return policy for unworn items. Saxon also plays host to the "comfort-fit" technique to make sure you're walking out of the store with the footwear that fits you best. "It's the most fun you can have shopping for shoes [and] nine times bigger than your average shoe store," says its president and chief executive, Gary Weiner. The Glen Allen branch of the national chain Designer Shoe Warehouse can be found at Broad Street Plaza. And Short Pump Town Center's branch of Nordstrom, always a beacon of customer service, comes in third.
