Part of the Richmond Restaurant Group, the Daily Kitchen & Bar has been a frequent flyer on Style’s Best-Of winners list for years, consistently ranking in categories for Best Vegetarian and Best Gluten Free restaurant. Needless to say, it’s a popular spot for everyone from lifelong vegans to folks who enjoy a healthy but filling spicy avocado bowl on lunch break.

Richmond Restaurant Group co-founder and owner Michelle Williams says the Daily has stayed true to its mission since opening its doors in Carytown in 2013 and Short Pump in 2017. In addition to offering vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, the restaurant also prides itself on using organic, all-natural, local and sustainable ingredients as often as possible.

During the pandemic Williams says, like everyone, “we were hit hard.” All eight of the restaurant group’s restaurants shuttered for two to four months, with the Daily’s Short Pump location reopening for patio dining and takeout in May 2020. The Carytown location did not reopen until August 2020.

“We still have dividers up in some of the restaurants, including the Daily,” Williams says. “To-go order sales are still higher than pre-pandemic, and we have slowly started to bring things back, but we aren’t back to our full menus in most restaurants yet.”

That said, you and your vegan, gluten-free dining buddy can find just about anything you’re craving on the current Daily menus, from crispy Brussels sprouts to glazed miso salmon tacos. If you prefer to drink your salad, you can’t go wrong with the cucumber martini or blackberry basil margarita.
