Second Place: CarLotz
Third Place: David R. McGeorge Car Co.
The national auto sales chain CarMax started in Richmond more than 20 years ago, launching a new way of doing business. Instead of facing the usual haggling, customers have a sea of used vehicles to choose from, all with fixed prices and a promise that the company will accept any trade-in. It's a successful formula — CarMax plans to open as many as 30 new stores during the next two years. If you're unhappy with the price that CarMax offers for your trade-in, Car Lotz offers to sell your car for you, charging a $199 fee at locations on West Broad Street and in Midlothian. Looking for brand-new wheels? David R. McGeorge Car Co. has been in business since 1955, currently offering Toyota, Scion, Mercedes and Smart franchises in Henrico, Midlothian and Richmond.
