Second Place: Pets at Play
Third Place: Diamond Dog House
Since 1972, Holiday Barn Pet Resort has grown the concept of spoiling your pets while boarding them. "We do everything possible when a pet visits us," says Martha Prideaux, Holiday Barn's marketing director. Basic rates start at $28 a day, a bit more than at a no-frills veterinarian. Why be chintzy? For $58 a night ($60 on holidays), your pet can enjoy a room with a chandelier, a full-time television just like home and five walks a day. On the North Side outlet, dogs have their own swimming pool. For day-hoppers, there's plenty to do. On a recent Cinco de Mayo celebration, the Barn's guests were treated to cheese burritos and doggie beer. Photos of the sombrero-wearing animals were put on Facebook for sharing with their owners' friends. Pets at Play and Diamond Dog House follow in the same vein. They're giving new meaning to being sent to the doghouse. The only problem: Your pets may never want to leave.
