Flying dogs, flipping bikes, gritty mud runs and loads of bands make Dominion Riverrock on Brown’s Island an unparalleled festival in the commonwealth — some might argue the country. Organized by Venture Richmond and the Sports Backers, the weekend event — which recently put on another successful run — is a celebration of the riverfront as much as it is outdoor sports and music. Crowds swell to more than 100,000. And did we mention it’s free? You might loathe traffic in and around Monument Avenue on a certain weekend each spring, but most folks are willing to forgive it considering the good time that results. And despite those old digs, voters still have their socks rocked by a good game at The Diamond, with extra fun courtesy of the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
