Second Place: The Byrd Theatre

Third Place: CinéBistro

The Byrd is still the word, but after a two-year run at vote-getting in the reader poll, the movie palace in Carytown has slipped to second behind Movieland at Boulevard Square. In December, Movieland opened Criterion Cinemas in its parking lot, bringing art and independent films to the Boulevard. Perhaps this new addition swayed voters over the Byrd's $2 tickets, rich history and Bob Gulledge on the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ. As the Boulevard and Scott's Addition continue to develop, the demand at Movieland is only expected to increase. Rounding out the list is the most comfortable place to watch a movie in Richmond: CinéBistro at Stony Point Fashion Park, which allows viewers to enjoy dinner and drinks while they catch the latest flicks.
