Best Local Politician

Readers' Pick

First Place: Sen. Tim Kaine

Second Place: Rep. Eric Cantor

Third Place: Delegate Jennifer McClellan

Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine easily breezed past former Sen. and Gov. George Allen, a Republican, to replace U.S. Sen. Jim Webb in Washington last year. Kaine's smooth qualities have won him a variety of posts, including Richmond's mayorship, even though as governor, he accepted the same kinds of gifts as Gov. Bob McDonnell has, including an $18,000 Caribbean holiday, though McDonnell got lower-scale Smith Mountain Lake. Hard-charging U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, the Republican House majority leader from Henrico, actually has calmed down and seems to be shaking his Eddie Haskell image now that bipartisanship is in the air (or is it?). On the state level, Jennifer McClellan is vice chairman of the Democrats, a delegate from the 71st District covering much of Richmond. She's young and seems to have a bright career ahead.
