For the sixth year in a row and the seventh time ever, Edo’s Squid has been named Best Local Italian.

Ed Vasaio’s seafood-centric, modern ristorante was open for take-out only during the pandemic, and just reopened the dining room in June to the delight of its devoted customers. It opens for dinner service Wednesdays through Sundays at 5 p.m. and will take over-the-phone reservations at 864-5488 as long as two months in advance. A silver lining of the pandemic is that Edo’s now has its full menu online.

After 30 years in business, Bon Air mainstay Frank’s continues to impress diners with its straightforward menu of antipasto, insalata, pizza and pasta. During the past year, Frank’s chef Giuseppe Carollo says the customers threw their support behind the restaurant’s small staff, even dropping off envelopes of money for the dedicated servers when picking up to-go orders. “We’ve been in Stony Point so long, it’s more than just ‘come get your food,’” Carollo says.

The homemade pastas and specialty entrees at Mama Cucina belie it’s humble, suburban strip mall location. In spring 2020, the Glen Allen restaurant pivoted like a pro, creating to-go cocktails –please see Mama’s Quarantini – and to-go quarts of homemade tomato sauce, adding patio space and then adding heaters to said patio space. Today, it’s offering dine-in, takeout and delivery for lunch Mondays-Fridays and dinner Mondays-Saturdays.
