For years Hall of Famer Stella’s has been sating Richmonders’ cravings for authentic yet modern Greek fare with grilled octopus, Yia Yia’s fried potatoes and moussaka.

Constantine Giavos, son of restaurateurs Katrina and Johnny Giavos and director for the family business, says that Stella’s restaurant is now offering almost everything it was making pre-pandemic, like whole fish and more entree options.

He says it has also recently overhauled the Stella’s spirits list, collaborating with Maker’s Mark to create a Stella’s & Giavos Family Reserve bourbon exclusive to Stella’s. Even though the first iteration of the restaurant opened in 1983, Stella’s devotees are still having to make dinner reservations well in advance to score a table at 1012 Lafayette St.

If you cannot find a seat at the bustling flagship, there are always the four Stella’s Grocery locations to visit. The newest market just opened at Westhampton this spring and features a chic, marble-topped meze bar and menu. Small plates – served 3-9 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays – include dishes like shredded phyllo wrapped shrimp with an orange-honey gastrique and pistachio crumble and grilled swordfish and zucchini skewers with mint-pistachio pesto and pickled fresno chili. Guests can enjoy seasonal spritzes garnished with fresh fruit at the bar, at a smattering of tables inside, or on the lovely, twinkly-light adorned patio. Like all the markets, the Westhampton location is stocked full with tasty grab-and-go items, desserts and frozen goods.
