Hall of Fame: French Film Festival
First Place: Richmond International Film Festival

The beloved French Film Festival, which transforms Carytown into an open market for the lovely French language, marked its 25th anniversary this year with good reason. And the Richmond International Film Festival, largely the brainchild of Heather Waters, had its biggest year to date — its seventh edition. In addition to bringing more than 130 films from 30 countries, the international film festival expanded to host more than 50 musical acts around its film events. “It was an extension of our focus to celebrate local and international music talent and utilize the festival as a means for talent development and a networking platform between filmmakers, performers and music industry professionals,” Waters explains. The festival plans to move to the last week of April next year, hoping to mix more indoor and outdoor events.
