Second Place: Rumors Boutique
Third Place: Pink
Need Supply selects its clothes the way a museum curates its collection: It favors small, independent designers from around the world — "clothes you can't find anywhere else," boutique manager Holly Hiday says. "Right now, we're focused on elevated basic stuff you can keep in your closet as a staple, like a cool, white button-up and a wide-leg, black pant." Need also carries DigDogDig and Academy jewelry, both made by local artists. Casey Longyear and Marshe Wyche were in their early 20s when they opened Rumors as a short-lived boutique. Seemingly overnight, the pair transformed it into the humming clothing thrift it is today. You can sell Rumors your fashionable "pre-loved" stuff for cash or store credit. And farewell votes were cast for Pink, a perennial favorite among readers. It closed in February after 30 years in business — or as its Facebook page reads: "Pink has reached retirement age. … in retail years!" Former co-owner Libby Sykes sends her appreciation: "As bittersweet as it is since we are no longer open, I am very humbled with this award. Many thanks to a one-of-a-kind staff and wonderful customers!"
