Best Live In-Store Music

Steady Sounds music store at 322 W. Broad St. is run by two guys who know a thing or two about music: Marty Key and Drew Snyder. Key has played in a few bands, including Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, and knows people in the biz, as they say. He used to run a record shop in New York right next to Richard Hell’s apartment. They also both have great taste in tunes. Maybe that’s why the store often is host to cool, independent artists for unique and intimate in-store appearances. Among those who’ve stopped by in recent times: Screaming Females, Michael Chapman and Ed Askew. Steady Sounds isn’t a venue, however, and usually just books shows “recommended by friends,” Key says. We also recommend checking their Facebook site if you’re in the market for used equipment, usually turntables or retro speakers. Good deals, sweet stuff.
